So nothing else to do except get yourself "event-ready" for another delightful and wonderful year in Pahang. And don't forget to mark the following dates in your diary, calendar or PDA. LIST OF 2008 EVENTS IN PAHANG
Event: Gems of the World Venue: Genting Hotel Grand Ballroom, Genting Highlands Resort, Genting Highlands Gemstone enthusiasts, collectors and visitors will surely be wowed and thrilled to see the world’s largest collection of natural mineral gemstones in their purest uncut forms featured in this exhibition. Date : 1 February - 3 February 2008 The competition to be held at one of Malaysia's best beaches for surfing on the waves, comprises the High Speed Downwind Slalom, Masterblast High Speed, Kite-surfing and Powerkite.
Date: 8 February - 31 December 2008 The Genting International Show will feature world class performances of illusions, acrobats, dances and showcase of exotic animals -- great fun for young and old alike.
Date: 9 February - 17 February 2008 The world's best and finest cyclists will compete in various phases on the road in various states in Malaysia, and on different terrains. Starting from Langkawi Island, they will along the way, traverse various states including Pahang, before ending with a criterium at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.
Date: 4 April - 5 April 2008 No doubt jazz music lovers will eagerly look forward to this, as the festival promises a glamorous array of international jazz performances by bands and renowned jazz celebrities.
Date: 27 April - 4 May 2008 Teams competing on bamboo-built rafts will paddle down Sungai Pahang from Kuala Lipis to Pekan, with daily stops at villages along the journey, spanning a distance of about 329 kilometers. Date: 13 May - 15 May 2008 Teams of 4 racers each will battle the challenging tasks set including mountain biking, running, canoeing, night stops with outdoor camping in this inaugural fete around the beautiful Tioman Island. Date: 30 May - 22 June 2008 Colorful parades and traditional performances and crafts will be show-cased during this festival, with local delicacies and spectacular exhibitions held nation-wide, including in the state of Pahang.
Date: 21 June - 22 June 2008 A fun bird race (competition) for young and old, with the objective of creating public awareness on the need to preserve nature, while promoting Fraser's Hill (Bukit Fraser) as a popular Malaysia bird sanctuary and a birdwatchers' paradise. Date: 18 July - 20 July 2008 This will be an annual gathering of the world’s best lion dance troupes, competing for the coveted title of "The World Lion King". Don’t miss the spectacular performances of stunning and dazzling lion dance acrobatics on high steel poles and stilts. Date: July 2008 With the month-long festival set during the peak fruiting season of delicious, tropical fruits in Pahang like the durian, rambutan, langsat, mangoes and many more, it will attract fruit lovers and gastoromics to buy and savor their favorite fruits at big discounted prices. There will also be spreads of local cuisines, and various competitions, like the best fruit competition, cooking competition, various games and sports competitions.
Date: August 2008 (actual date(s) to be informed later) Watch the fun, and the exciting motor-cross ride and expert handling by new and seasoned dirt bikers in an extreme sport that not only provides exposure, but also as a place for young, local dirt bikers to show their riding talents.
Date: 7 August - 10 August 2008 This event involves researchers, kayak enthusiasts and RAMSA members worldwide. This is a 3 days expedition through the two largest lakes in the country. This event will end with a Kayaking competition. Date: 8 September - 10 September 2008 The Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge is a fishing sport based on the nature-friendly catch and release concept. It is a very popular annual affair for sea fishing enthusiasts all over the world who will pit their skills in catching sailfishes and billfishes off the sea around Rompin, Pahang.
Date: 8 November - 9 November 2008 The world’s top runners come and compete with local runners in this challenging event at Taman Negara which requires participants to ascend and descend the 2,187 metre high Gunung Tahan, the highest mountain in Peninsular Malaysia.
Date: 28 November - 30 November 2008 The largest gathering of the best international magicians and illusionists will be in Genting - the "City of Entertainment" - to perform and show-case their extraordinary magic spells and illusionary works. Date: 28 November - 30 November 2008 Many recognised and influential Michelin star chefs from Europe and elsewhere will bring and show-off their delicate cooking skills to Pahang for a really unforgettable gastronomic experience. Date: 29 November 2008 - 4 January 2009 The Malaysia YES (Year End Sale) is a time of unbelievably great discounts and bargains at shopping centers and malls on a wide variety of local and foreign-branded merchandise. This is definitely a delightful time for all shoppers to indulge to the extreme without constraints and regrets!
