Issue #014 April 5, 2007
Welcome to the 14th issue of the Pahang-Delights Babbler.
1) Pahang Tourism - new Director
Amirul Ariffin Mat Nasir was appointed the new Pahang Tourism director starting in April 2007, succeeding Jeffri Munir. He was formerly the Assistant Director, Tourism Malaysia Domestic Promotion.
So we bid a warm welcome to Amirul Ariffin to Pahang and hope that the tourism industry and activities in Pahang will grow further, and benefit from his vast experience in tourism development.
We are happy to know that the previous Director, Jeffri Munir, has been promoted and posted to France as Tourism Malaysia Director in the European country. Our congratulations to him, and we hope that while there he will help to especially promote Pahang, having contributed substantially to the state's tourism growth during his tenure here.
The concert, being one of the special events to mark RTM's 61st anniversary celebration, was held on 1st April, 2007 at Stadium Melawati, Shah Alam, Selangor. Thousands attended the event.
Among the singers who sang the many songs popularised by the late Sudirman were Mawi (who sang the first song, Dir), Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, Ramli Sarip (Papa Rock), Misha Omar, Ning Baizura, Liza Hanim, Dayang Nurfaizah, Jaclyn Victor, Nita, Farawahida, Izwan Pilus, Kenny Lee, Faizal AF and Bob AF .
It was perhaps a fitting tribute to Sudirman Haji Arshad for his contributions and dedication to enhancing the local entertainment scene. During his time he was the top Malaysian entertainer and singer, who was Asia's number one performer in 1987 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Genting Highlands in Pahang, dubbed the "city of entertainment", was again the center of attention of Bollywood fans all over the world, after having hosted in 2006 the GIFA awards event.
Held on the 1st of April 2007 at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands Hotel, this extravaganza, hosted by the talented young film director, Karan Johar, saw a gathering of top celebrities and stars of Bollywood.
Shahruz Khan, Salman Khan, Abishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Shilpa Shetty, Urmila Matondkar, and other top stars, actors, actresses, singers, and of course the top film directors, were there. The Bollywood stars also presented and showcased songs and energetic performances on the stage as well.
Among the results, "Rang de Basanti" a film starring Aamir Khan and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra took the Best Film and Best Director awards.
Bollywood heart-throb Hrithik Roshan was named Best Actor for his role in "Krish", while Kajol received the Best Actress award for her performance in "Faana".
Veteran actress Rekha received the Forever Diva Award, while the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to veteran actor Vinod Khanna.
Well, Pahang is proud and happy to be host of this popular and prestigious international event. Previous locations of the Zee Cine awards were Dubai (2004), London (2005) and Mauritius (2006).
It's that time of the year again. For the third consecutive year, gathering of Malaysian celebrities and media companies through FMI '07, a combined sports event, will be held in Kuantan from the 13th April to 15th April, 2007.
Fara Fauzana, the versatile Hot FM radio disc jockey and televison show host, was selected as FMI'07's ambassadress, succeeding Fasha Sandha who was ambassadress for FMI 2006.
The promotion launch of the FMI 2007 was held on 27th March 2007 with the FMI'07 torch run. The lighted FMI'07 torch was carried from Astro by celebrities and relayed to all the media premises in Kuala Lumpur, beginning with Utusan Malaysia, and on to My Team, Balai Berita (Berita Harian and New Straits Times), RTM, ntv7, and Kumpulan Karangkraf. It ended at TV3 in Bandar Utama, where the torch was passed to Prima Berhad's Chief Executive for tv and media network, Datuk Farid Ridzuan.
In the evening, the launching ceremony was officiated by Tengku Muda Pahang, Tengku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ahmad Shah, who originally mooted the FMI idea. Kelab Sukan Shahzan Muda is the organisor of the FMI'07.
Well, to all fans of the Malaysian celebrities, don't forget to watch your favorite stars in action in the six sporting events scheduled, namely, the men and ladies futsal, netball, men and women bowling, and athletics.
After having hosted the Taman Negara Eco-Challenge on 21 - 25 March 2007, Pahang again will host, as part of the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 events in the state of Pahang., this very popular international river rafting adventure.
The expedition this time (unlike last year where it started from Temerloh) will start from Kuala Lipis on Thursday, the 29th April and will end at Bandar Pekan Diraja on Monday, 6th May 2007.
With a total distance of about 329 kilometers, there will be seven (7) stops along the way, where participants will be feasted kenduri-style by the villagers, and they will get to watch and even join in local recreational and cultural activities such as traditional games and sports.
