Where's the coolest place to hang about in Kuantan?
Well, the East Coast Mall Kuantan (locals call it "ECM", its short form) is a modern and trendy shopping center, or as the young people here describe it, it's "the happening place in town".
Now a popular hang-out for shoppers and window-shoppers in Kuantan, it is located at Jalan Putra Square 6, Putra Square, 25200 Kuantan, Pahang Darul Makmur.
Getting there is by way of Jalan Bukit Sekilau, and it is easily visible from the main road as it is part of the development of Putra Square, an innovative commercial and travel square with Malaysian culture as its theme.
This is a huge business and tourism project developed in the heart of Kuantan.
In fact the old Transit Quarters of Bukit Sekilau were demolished to make way for this project.
Putra Square's "Cultural Street", comprising of business and tourism structures and aptly-named Malay Town, Chinese Town, Indian Town and Construction Town, with a modern ICT hub, is a great attraction to shoppers and tourists with its cultural-architectural multi-racial concept.
There, we can find varieties of retail outlets, shops, eateries and restaurants catering to all levels of cooking and tastes. And you will find the place quite busy when people go to the banks and financial institutions during the day time.
Opposite the completed East Coast Mall Kuantan, is a huge complex that includes a 23-storey 5-star hotel (the Zenith Hotel), an International Convention Center (Sultan Ahmad Shah Convention Center), and a multi - purpose Office Tower equipped with high-tech facilities.
With the presence of an integrated ICT hub complex complete with retail and commercial, tourism and cultural oriented businesses, this mega complex in Kuantan has , since then, become a popular landmark and tourist attraction in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
The Malaysian Tourism and Pahang Tourism have their own offices set up at the location.
East Coast Mall Kuantan itself is a five - storey high modern retail and commercial complex.
Like the other popular shopping centers, this shopping mall attracts popular and famous branded retail sellers and international concept stores with their extensive range of merchandise to sell their wares there.
Popular local and international brands for watches, shoes, accessories, jewelleries, beauty salons, boutiques, and others, have their outlet or branch set up in here.
Food and beverage outlets found here include Starbucks, Baskin Robbins, KFC, Sushi King, Laksa Shack, Manhattan Fish, Kenny Rogers, Chicken Rice Shop, and other alfresco lifestyle favourite local restaurants and eateries.
The retail shops in this complex occupy from the Ground Floor upwards to Level 3, the levels being connected by travallators and lifts.
The anchor tenants of the complex, namely, Parkson (Ground-floor to Level 2) and Aeon Big (at Level 1 and 2) respectively occupy the left and right wings of the building.
At level 3 there are, amongst others, a popular cineplex showing the latest films, a food-court, and handphones and computer shops.
Amenities available at this East Coast Mall Kuantan include banks' automated teller machines (ATMs), money changers, rest-rooms and baby rooms, and for the Muslim visitors, a surau (or mussolah) located at level 1 and 2.
Parking facilities are very adequate with big outdoor, sub-basement, level 3 and roof-top parking areas.
So if you are in Kuantan, don’t forget to visit this exciting shopping center.
Take a look, and go round the retail shops.
Perhaps you’ll find that nice, new Seiko or Gucci watch for a present to a loved one, or the comfortable, reasonably-priced Nike jogging shoes or sandals that you’ve desired for that walk on the beaches in Kuantan.
Or you might want to idle your time away with scoops of nice concoction of mixed flavored ice-cream, or maybe just sip a cup of cappuccino, while watching people go by.
Well, Baskin-Robbins, or Starbucks, anyone? Let's go!
As always, from me...
