Events in Pahang
for Visit Malaysia Year 2007

As part of the Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2007 programs, more than 10 major events in Pahang have been arranged.

These events were selected by the Pahang state government as the state’s main tourism activities to help contribute towards the success of the VMY 2007.

VMY 2007 is significant by the fact that it is also part of the festivities and celebrations arranged in conjunction with the 50th anniversary (or Golden Jubilee) of Malaysia’s Independence and Nationhood achieved on 31st August 1957.

Consonant with the 50th anniversary celebrations, the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism has made arrangements to organise 50 main programs with 240 events scattered throughout all states and spread throughout the year, to attract tourists to the country.

The main event for VMY 2007 will of course be the national parade on 31st August 2007 to be held at Putrajaya, the new administrative capital of Malaysia, in conjunction with National Day.

SIDE-NOTE

This is the third time Malaysia was honored by the World Tourism Organisation to host a national year-long Visit Malaysia Year theme.

The two previous occasions were in 1990 and 1994.

During VMY 1994, there were 7.1 tourist arrivals with revenue of RM8.29 billion.

For VMY 2007, it is expected that over-all there will be 20.1 million tourists arrivals to Malaysia with a targeted tourism revenue of RM44.5 billion.

Pahang state itself targets more than 7.8 million tourists to come with an expected tourism revenue of about RM3.2 billion.

With more than 75,000 rooms in more than 400 hotels nation-wide ready and prepared for tourist arrivals during the year, it’s all systems go for VMY from January 1, 2007.
