Pahang State and Parliamentary Representatives

The list of new Pahang State and Parliamentary representatives, following the results of the recently concluded 12th Malaysian General Election held on the 8th of March 2008, saw a wonderful mix of old and new faces.

A total of 14 Parliamentary seats and 42 State seats were contested, mostly one against one between the ruling Barisan Nasional party and other parties.

The election outcome in Pahang showed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) party was victorious in all except two parliamentary constituencies which were won by the PKR (Party Keadilan Rakyat), while BN also won all except 5 state constituencies -- 2 of which were won by PAS (Partai Islam SeMalaya), another 2 won by the DAP (Democratic Action Party) and one by an Independent candidate (who later joined the BN).

Here is the complete list of the Pahang State and Parliamentary Representatives (or "wakil rakyat" in Bahasa Malaysia) for the term 2008 - 2013 or until the 13th General Election to be held within 5 years.

pahang state and parliamentary constituencies

APPOINTMENT OF MENTERI BESAR, STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCILLORS AND FEDERAL MINISTERS

These Pahang state and parliamentary representatives will not only be just mere assemblymen/women or parliamentarians, but they would also be eligible for higher offices and posts in the state and nation.

From the successfully elected state assemblymen, the Sultan of Pahang, as the constitutional Head of State, will appoint one assemblyman from the party which won the majority, as the state's Mentri Besar (or Chief Minister).

The Menteri Besar will in turn appoint capable and experienced assemblymen and assemblywomen as members of the Pahang state executive council, who will administer and will be responsible for their designated committees and portfolios.

Likewise, from the list of elected Pahang Parliamentarians, the Prime Minister of Malaysia will select and appoint those truly capable as members of the Federal Cabinet, including as Deputy Ministers, and Parliamentary Secretaries, to serve the country.

MAY THEY ALL SERVE WITH UTMOST DEDICATION

It is the hope and wishes of the electorates and citizens that these Pahang State and Parliamentary representatives will serve their constituencies with dedication, fair and just to all, and without fear or favour – all for the good and well-being of the people and country.

DEMOCRACY

Well, the polls showed that democracy and the democratic process are certainly alive and kicking in Malaysia.

Candidates comprising the various political parties and their supporters went on their campaign trails with vigor throughout the state until polling day.

Colorful banners, buntings and party posters of the political parties, and even the pahang state flags, can be found everywhere.

The election campaign period of 13 days has been, as in all previous elections, like a great carnival time, or a festival celebration of sorts, for folks in Pahang.

Albeit, when it came to casting their votes on polling day, it was carried out with the full responsibility and knowledge that they had to choose and elect their state and parliamentary representatives who possess, amongst others, the requisite qualities of integrity, dedication, knowledge and experience - nothing less.

This is as it should be.
