Taman Budaya Negeri Pahang
Taman Budaya Negeri in Kuantan is located at Jalan Teluk Sisek, and just beside the Seri Malaysia Hotel Kuantan. If you come from Kuantan town, it is on the way to Teluk Chempedak, and once you pass the main traffic lights junction, just follow the signboard to Seri Malaysia Hotel on the left side of the road just before the Vistana Hotel. Taman Budaya Negeri Pahang is part of the compound of the Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara, Negeri Pahang (Pahang State Department of Culture and Arts) which is under the Malaysian Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture. Here at the Taman Budaya (Malay meaning "Cultural Garden"), as its name implies, is where traditional Malaysian culture, in the form of dances, and other arts and theatrical performances found in the state of Pahang as well as Malaysia, are nurtured, promoted and show-cased to the public. Besides the open stage or platform located in front of the JKKN building, there is also an Auditorium inside the building, where the arts, theatres and cultural performances are held. An active group, the Kumpulan Kesenian or Cultural Troupe, under the Department performs regular dance and cultural shows not only at the Taman Budaya compound and Auditorium, but also at other places in the state where they are popularly invited. The dances performed include and portray the traditional dances found in Pahang, like the Zapin Pekan, tarian labi-labi, tarian pelanduk, as well as other traditional Malay dances like the varieties of joget, tarian lilin, mak yong, dikir barat, and zapin. The choreographies of the traditional dances performed also include and depict the dances of other Malaysian cultures, like Chinese, Indian, Ibans and Kadazans, Bidayuh, Melanau, and other Malaysian ethnic groups. For this year (2010) the Kumpulan Kesenian will perform shows for the public at the Auditorium on every second and last Thursdays of the month (except in August and September because of Ramadan and Hari Raya). They are normally held at 12.30p.m. till 1.00 p.m., and scheduled on the dates below. Well, I went to watch one of the fortnightly Thursday shows held recently, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. So I thought I'd share with my dear Pahang-Delights visitors two short four-minutes video recordings of part of that lively and exciting cultural show performed at the Auditorium, below. But first, my apologies for the slight movements in the videos. I was hand-holding and recording the video with my left hand while also taking photos with my dslr camera with my right hand. And (if you watch carefully) to cap it, I was actually swaying my body and tapping my hands to the lively music and song!! Do however please wait a while for the videos to buffer, and then enjoy.
Well, I hope you've enjoyed the dance performances. Make a visit to the Taman Budaya Negeri Pahang if you are in Kuantan, and watch the full, live traditional shows on the scheduled dates and time. Enjoy, and if you feel like it, sway your body to the rhythm of the music and songs, as you watch the lively and fascinating performances. Otherwise just enjoy the ambience, and after the show, perhaps go and have a taste of the Malaysian food sold at the canteen. As always, from me … ***SELAMAT DATANG*** Didn't find what you were looking for? Use this search feature to quickly find it.
